Agribusiness & Food Processing

Agriculture and Food Processing has remained a thriving industry region-wide. Gallia County native Bob Evans, founder of Bob Evans Restaurants, began making sausage on farm.  In the 1950's Bob Evans Farms was established and began slaughtering his own hogs for sausage. The company opened a total of four sausage plants, one of which was in Bidwell (Gallia County), to keep up with demand. In 2013, the original Bob Evans Sausage Plant in Bidwell, OH was closed and production was moved to other facilities.

Gallia County has been powering homes and businesses for decades.  Two of Gallia County's largest employers are the General James M. 'Gavin' Power Plant and Kyger Creek Power Plant.  The Lightstone Generation, Gavin Plant is a 2.6 Gigawatt coal-fired power station in Cheshire, OH.  It is the largest coal fired power facility in Ohio, and one of the largest in the nation.   The Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC) Kyger Creek Power Plant is a 1-Gigawatt coal-fired power station in Cheshire, OH.
