Founded as the Holzer Clinic in Gallipolis, OH in 1950, Holzer Health is today the largest employer in Gallia County, employing approximately 1,200 people. Holzer has grown from just six physicians to over 150 board-certified practitioners, providing services in over 30 specialties in 12 locations throughout southeastern Ohio and western West Virginia. Among other specialty services, the organization operates the Holzer Center for Cancer Care in affiliation with the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
“Over a century ago, healthcare in southeastern Ohio had a humble beginning with a seven-bed hospital established at 507 Second Ave. in Gallipolis. Dr. Charles E. Holzer Sr. opened the first private hospital in the region, which has grown into the multifacility healthcare system Holzer is today. The Holzer legacy remains with the continued practicing of Dr. Holzer Sr. and Dr. Holzer Jr.’s philosophy: “The Patient is the center of all we do.”
As the system continues to grow services for our local communities, we remember a proud past, celebrate present accomplishments and look forward to what the future holds not only for our health system, but also for Gallia County. Our healthcare system would not be able to achieve continued success without the support of our communities. Holzer is proud to be part of Gallia County, Ohio.” – Holzer Health System
