Broadband

Bridging the digital divide in Gallia County

The natural beauty and low population density our residents enjoy in Gallia County is a double-edged sword when it comes to broadband availability. For internet service providers, there is no business case to deploy broadband once population density falls below a certain level. Running fibers lines costs the same whether it hits 100 homes or 1 homes on a certain road.

Recognizing that broadband availability is critical to participating in a 21st century economy, Gallia County Economic Development is committed to supporting widespread broadband availability in even our most remote areas.

We are highly supportive of both federal and state efforts, such as the:

  • Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Program (ORBEG)
  • Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program
  • Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF)

These programs are all bridging the broadband funding gap and incentivizing internet service providers to expand their deployment efforts throughout Gallia County.
