Gallia County Economic Development Receives $10K Grant

Gallia County is becoming an “old hand” at accepting awards.

The county recently received a $10,000 grant from AEP Ohio for the completion of Community Economic Development Academy.

The CEDA is a multi-phase professional development program. The goal of the program is to better understand the site selection processes the companies utilize to locate new plants and bases of operation. Economic Development Director Melissa Clark and Gallia County Commissioner Harold Montgomery attended a workshop, completed a gap analysis about available sites and hosted a mock site by InSite Consulting.

“The grant from AEP wiull assist to further enhance the ongoing economic development marketing project for Gallia County and update the signage at the Dan Evans Induastrial Pak entrance,” Montgomery said.

“We have a marketing project in Gallia County,” Clark said.” A small part (of the money) will go to putting together a Prezi presentation.” Clark explained that a Prezi presentation would be something like an interactive PowerPoint presentation.

“Some will go to a completely new sign at the Industrial Park,” Clark said. “It would be nice if we could incorporate some of the businesses at the park and get their names on the sign.”

According to the Gallia County Economic Development website, the county has many advantages that could lure in businesses. The first advantage is the geographic location. Gallia County’s highways provide quick access to the interstate highway system in both Ohio and West Virginia. Gallia County also has ample access to the Ohio River.

The Ohio Department of Transportation reports the Ohio River system accounts for one-third of all U.S. inland waterborne business, and moves more cargo than the Panama Canal. Because of its location along the Ohio River, Gallia County can provide river transport for many goods between major cities. According to the website, Ohio also has one of the lowest tax rates in the Midwest on capital investments.
